Beef With Kaya(Raw Banana) Ularthiyathu
Beef and raw banana are cooked separately and fried with masala.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 1/2 kg Beef
- 3 nos Raw banana — chopped
- 1 nos Onion — sliced
- 1 tbsp Ginger
- 1 tbsp Garlic
- 4 nos Green chillies
- Curry leaves, a few
- 5 nos Shallots (Kunjulli)
- Salt, to taste
- Coconut oil, to taste
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- 3 nos Dry red chillies
Preparation
Step 1
Marinate beef pieces with coriander powder, chilly powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, few curry leaves, 1 tsp coconut oil, sliced onion, garlic and salt for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Pressure cook the beef and set aside.
Step 3
Cook raw banana with salt and turmeric powder. Set aside.
Step 4
Roughly grind shallots, ginger, green chillies and red chillies.
Step 5
Heat the oil in kadai, fry the ground mixture for 3 minutes. Add cooked beef pieces and cook for little time.
Step 6
Add the cooked banana pieces and Stir everything together thoroughly. Add curry leaves and give it a good stir.
Step 7
A Beef with kaya ularthiyathu is ready.
Tip
Pressure cooking first saves time, but do not skip the dry-roasting step after — that is where the Kerala beef fry gets its signature dark, caramelised crust.
