Sardine Cutlet (Mathi Cutlet)
Cooked and mashed sardines mixed with potatoes and other ingredients to make cutlets.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 8 nos Sardine Mathi/Chaala
- 1/2 cup Onions — finely chopped
- 1 tsp Ginger — finely chopped
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 2 Dsp Tomato fine — chopped
- 1 nos Potato cooked and — mashed
- 1 nos Egg beaten
- Bread crumbs, to taste
- Oil — for deep frying
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Clean the sardines and drain.
Step 2
Cook the sardines with tomatoes, chilly powder and required salt until done and water evaporates completely. Crush the cooked sardines removing all bones.
Step 3
Place a pan on the stove and pour oil. Heat the oil and fry chopped onions and ginger. Add mashed potato and crushed sardines. Mix together and remove from fire.
Step 4
Make small cutlets with your palm and coat well with the beaten egg and roll over bread crumbs.
Step 5
Place a pan on the stove and pour sufficient oil for frying. Fry both sides of the sardine cutlet until golden brown.
Step 6
And highly nutritious sardine cutlet is ready. Serve hot.
Tip
Oil temperature is critical. Too hot and the outside burns before the inside cooks. Too cool and the snack absorbs oil and turns soggy.
