Healthy Oats Upma
Oats cooked with other ingredients and garnished with grated coconut.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 100 g Oats soaked and — drained
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- 3 nos Shallots — finely chopped (Kunjulli)
- 1 nos Red chilly cut in half
- 1/4 tsp Ginger — chopped
- Asafoetida A pinch (Kayam)
- 1/4 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tbsp Coconut oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing healthy oats upma, Heat the oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
Step 2
When the mustard seeds allow to crackle, add urad dal, shallots, ginger, red chilly and and curry leaves.
Step 3
When the urad dal is golden brown, add soaked oats, required salt and asafoetida.
Step 4
Stir everything together thoroughly and Put the lid on and cook in low flame till done. Stir in between.
Step 5
Stir in the grated coconut, mix gently and serve hot.
Step 6
Oats upma, a healthy breakfast recipe for kids as well as elders, is ready.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
